A professor at Texas A&M University posted a series of photos to Facebook that show how within two weeks a mini memorial for a cockroach became a large-scale shrine. Mirror UK reported.

The professor initially wrote: "There has been a dead cockroach in the Anthropology building's stairwell for at least two weeks.

"Some enterprising person has now made her a little shrine."

The shrine started off as a very basic paper memorial built by one student then within a day people began to put items around the carcass.

On the third day, the professor updated on the state of the shrine , posting: "There is a candle now and a little coffin for the carcass...

"And for the record, I had nothing to do with the genesis of this memorial."

As the days went on more and more tributes started to gather from different students

By the twelfth day there was also a flag, a mini baseball cap and a lighter placed around the shrine. A sign was also put up that read: "Rosie the Roach will be with us until Tuesday, December 14th when a celebration of her life will be conducted.

"Food and drinks will be served in the main office during the afternoon."

Rosie the cockroach was eventually cremated last Thursday on a carefully built funeral pyre made from a small board of wood, clay and twigs.

May Rosie the roach rest in peace.
