Claire Danes, Homeland Co-Creator Howard Gordon Team for Netflix Limited Series Beast

Netflix has ordered the limited series “The Beast in Me” with Claire Danes set to star, Variety has learned.

The series hails from writer Gabe Rotter, with Howard Gordon attached to serve as showrunner. The series reunites Gordon and Danes, as they previously worked together on the hit Showtime series “Homeland.” Danes starred in the series, which Gordon co-created and executive produced.

The official logline for “The Beast in Me” states, “Since the tragic death of her young son, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) has receded from public life, unable to write, a ghost of her former self. But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Sheldon, a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. At once horrified and fascinated by this man, Aggie finds herself compulsively hunting for the truth – chasing his demons while fleeing her own – in a game of cat and mouse that might turn deadly.”

Rotter is credited as creator, writer, and executive producer of “The Beast in Me.” He most recently worked on “The X-Files” revival at Fox. Gordon will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Danes will executive produce in addition to starring. Daniel Pearle will write and executive produce. Conan O’Brien, Jeff Ross, and David Kissinger will executive produce for Conaco. Jodie Foster also executive produces. 20th Television is the studio.

Danes won two of her three Emmy Awards for “Homeland,” receiving five nominations for best actress in a drama series overall for the show. She won her other Emmy for the HBO movie “Temple Grandin.” She won her three Golden Globes for “Homeland” and “Temple Grandin” as well. Most recently, she was nominated for the Emmy and Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series for the FX drama “Fleishman Is in Trouble.” Her film credits include “The Hours,” “Shopgirl,” and “Romeo + Juliet.”

In addition to “Homeland,” Gordon is known for his work on shows like “24,” “The X-Files,” and “Beauty and the Beast.” He most recently co-created the Fox drama “Accused” and previously co-created the FX series “Tyrant.” He has nabbed 14 Emmy nominations in his career for “Beauty and the Beast,” “The X-Files,” “24,” and “Homeland.” He has won three to date, including one for best writing for a drama series for “Homeland” alongside his co-creator, Alex Gansa, and Gideon Raff.
